I’m currently following about 330 blogs in Google Reader and learn an awesome amount from reading great posts there. I’m mostly interested in blog posts about new online applications and services, tech how-tos and tutorials, PC troubleshooting, Windows and Linux tips and tricks, learning Linux, learning WordPress, SEO, web design, and social networking. I star and tag the best posts that I find really useful and that I may want to refer to again.
Google Reader can show you trends for the blogs you follow over the last 30 days. Selecting Starred shows me the blogs with the most starred posts over the last 30 days. I’ve posted about this before about 2 years ago but thought it would be interesting to see what’s changed in the meantime as I’ve discovered lots of new blogs. Here’s a screenshot showing the top 20 blogs with the most starred posts in Google Reader in November 2010.
I have separate RSS feeds for MakeUseOf and their Web Services Directory, that’s why they appear twice on the list. But when you take them together, they are way out in front as my top tech blog, followed by Download Squad, Lifehacker, Crenk, a great blog I discovered recently, and gHacks. The How-To Geek, Help Desk Geek, ShoutMeLoud, Make Tech Easier and CompTalks follow on behind these. Obviously this list doesn’t tell the full story. The more often blogs post, the more chance they will get starred. If they only post once a week they’re not going to get into the top 20 here but may be producing great content nonetheless.
However, if you’re looking to start following tech blogs which push out lots of consistently good posts, I can recommend all of these.
